Namibia to host high-stakes ICC Women’s T20 qualifier

(Web Desk): Namibia will host the ICC Women’s T20 Africa Qualifier in Windhoek from August 31 to September 6, with eight teams competing for two spots in the Global Qualifier.

Namibia will welcome top African women’s cricket teams as they compete in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier. The week-long tournament will be held in Windhoek, across two top-class venues the new FNB Namibia Cricket Ground (NCG) and the upgraded HP Cricket Oval. The action kicks off on August 31 and runs through September 6.

Eight teams will take part: Namibia (hosts), Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Sierra Leone. All eyes will be on Zimbabwe, the highest-ranked side, who are seen as the favorites.

But their tournament will start with a tough match against host nation Namibia, who will be hoping that home support and familiar playing conditions give them the edge.

Uganda enters the tournament as a consistent performer in recent ICC events and could cause surprises with their well-balanced squad.
