Mikyle Louis and Alick Athanaze fell short of their maiden centuries.
Mikyle Louis and Alick Athanaze fell heartbreakingly short of maiden centuries but powered the West Indies to 250 for 5 against Bangladesh on Day 1 of the first Test.
Their crucial 140-run fourth-wicket stand lifted the hosts after a shaky start at 25 for 2. Louis scored a career-best 97, while Athanaze contributed a fluent 90. Justin Greaves (11*) and Joshua Da Silva (14*) were unbeaten at stumps, looking further to consolidate the West Indies position on Day 2.
South Africa recalled all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy to their 15-player squad for two-test tour of Bangladesh as one of three frontline spin options.
Muthusamy, 30, played the last of his three tests in March 2023 and joins Keshav Maharaj and Dane Piedt as the specialist slow-bowling options in the squad.
"We have three frontline spinners and all of them have the ability to step up at any time they are needed," South Africa coach Shukri Conrad said.
