According to media reports, despite Pakistan’s underwhelming performance in the Asia Cup 2025, the selection committee has shown complete trust in current T20 captain Salman Ali Agha.
Sources inside the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that a meeting took place between head coach Mike Hesson and T20 captain Salman Ali Agha, where both discussed the upcoming series against South Africa and the T20 World Cup 2026.
Insiders revealed that the coach and captain are focused on strengthening the team’s current combination instead of experimenting with new players. They believe that maintaining leadership stability is essential for building a consistent side ahead of the World Cup.
According to the sources, both Mike Hesson and Salman Ali Agha are not in favor of any immediate change in captaincy or team structure before the World Cup.

It was also reported that Salman Ali Agha will continue leading the T20 team in the upcoming series against South Africa, and there is no current plan for Babar Azam or Mohammad Rizwan’s return to the T20 lineup.
However, PCB insiders added that a crucial meeting between the team management and selection committee will be held in the coming days to discuss possible squad adjustments and the future of senior players like Babar and Rizwan in the T20 format.
This development signals a major shift in Pakistan’s cricket strategy. The management’s decision to back Salman Ali Agha shows a focus on long-term stability rather than returning to former captains. However, fans remain eager to see Babar and Rizwan back, especially with their proven T20 records. The coming days will be decisive as PCB finalizes its strategy for the 2026 World Cup.
