In an interview with an Indian newspaper, newly appointed BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that no proposal has been received regarding the Indian captain’s participation in the opening ceremony of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
Saikia responded to questions about Rohit Sharma visiting Pakistan by stating that as the host country, Pakistan would take advantage of the situation. He further added that India would need to make compromises to handle the matter, as this issue was not part of the discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
It’s worth noting that ahead of the Champions Trophy, all team captains are expected to attend the traditional media session in Pakistan, and an opening ceremony will be held where teams will be invited.
The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9. However, due to the Indian government s and BCCI s firm stance, the Indian team, known as the Blue Shirts, will not be traveling to Pakistan for the mega event. Instead, their matches will be played in Dubai under a hybrid model.
The official opening of the ICC Champions Trophy will take place on February 19 with a match between hosts and defending champions Pakistan and New Zealand, followed by the opening ceremony.
