Afghanistan announces squad for Asia Cup 2025

(Web Desk): The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) unveiled a 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, naming star all-rounder Rashid Khan as captain.

The squad features key players including Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Darwish Rasooli, Sediqullah Atal, Azmatullah Omarzai, Karim Janat, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and A.M. Ghazanfar.

Other notable inclusions are Noor Ahmad, Fareed Ahmad Malik, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Sharafuddin Ashraf, and Mohammad Ishaq.

Ahead of the Asia Cup, the Afghan side is also scheduled to participate in a tri-nation series as part of its preparations.

The 17th edition of the Asia Cup will be staged in the United Arab Emirates from 9 to 28 September 2025, with eight teams competing in the T20 International format. Matches will be played across Abu Dhabi and Dubai, starting with the group stage, followed by the Super Four round, and concluding with the final in Dubai.

Group A consists of India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.

In total, 19 matches will be contested, with the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash scheduled for 14 September in Dubai. As the defending champions, India will look to retain their title, but strong challenges are expected as all teams eye a spot in the T20 World Cup.
