RAWALPINDI (Web Desk): Pakistan secured a thrilling 5-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the opening match of the tri-nation T20 series, setting the stage for an exciting tournament start.

Playing at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the visiting Zimbabwean side was invited to bat first and managed to post a total of 147 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Zimbabwean openers Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani got off to a strong start, building a partnership of 72 runs before Marumani was caught by Shaheen Afridi off Mohammad Nawaz’s delivery after scoring 30 runs.

Brian Bennett was the top scorer for the visitors with a solid knock of 49 runs before being caught and bowled by Saim Ayub. Skipper Sikandar Raza added a crucial unbeaten 34 runs, ensuring Zimbabwe reached a respectable total.

For Pakistan, Mohammad Nawaz was the star bowler, taking two wickets, while Shaheen Afridi, Salman Mirza, Saim Ayub, and Abrar Ahmed each contributed one wicket.

In the chase, Pakistan successfully hunted down the 148-run target, demonstrating their batting depth to win by five wickets. Though specific details of Pakistan's batting innings were not provided, the early bowling effort and the winning result confirm the team's commanding performance.

Cricket analysts suggest that while Pakistan secured a comfortable win, conceding a near-150 score after a strong Zimbabwean opening stand indicates a potential area for the bowlers to tighten up early in the innings. Nonetheless, chasing the target with five wickets in hand shows the team’s chasing ability is strong, which is a positive sign for the remainder of the tri-series.
