(Web Desk): As winter tightens its grip across Pakistan, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) have announced revised winter gas schedules to manage rising demand.

The move aims to control gas load shedding and address domestic consumers' low gas pressure complaints during peak winter months.
The Sui Southern Gas Company has announced a fixed gas supply schedule for Sindh and Balochistan to ensure smoother gas availability during the winter season.

According to SSGC, gas supply in Sindh and Balochistan will be available daily from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm throughout the winter. The schedule has been issued on the directive of the Director General of Gas to maintain stability during peak demand hours.

SSGC officials said field teams have been instructed to closely monitor areas experiencing low gas pressure, particularly during morning hours, and ensure that complaints are addressed promptly to minimize inconvenience for domestic consumers.

Meanwhile, SNGPL has announced a revised winter gas schedule for domestic consumers in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, effective from December to February. Under the plan, households will receive gas in three daily slots:

  • Morning: 5:30 am to 8:30 am
  • Midday: 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
  • Evening: 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm

SNGPL officials advised families to plan cooking activities within these hours, stressing responsible gas usage amid rising winter consumption. They clarified that the industrial sector will not face gas load shedding, despite higher seasonal demand.

The announcements come as both SSGC and SNGPL have approached the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) seeking gas tariff increases for FY2025–26. SNGPL has requested a hike of Rs189 per MMBTU, while SSGC has sought an increase of Rs125.41 per MMBTU, citing growing financial requirements and accumulated losses. OGRA hearings on the petitions are scheduled for November.

At the government level, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure better gas availability for households during winter. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik informed the National Assembly that the prime minister ordered gas companies to provide uninterrupted supply from 5 am to 10 pm to ease public hardship.

The minister noted that gas load shedding has reduced significantly compared to last winter and said most consumer complaints are now being resolved within 36 hours. He urged lawmakers and the public to report areas facing pressure issues so corrective measures can be taken promptly.

The government has also reopened domestic gas connections and expanded RLNG supply, aiming to strengthen energy infrastructure and improve service delivery during the cold season.
