Rain spell expected from July 19 as weather relief nears
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of rain from July 19, raising hopes for relief from the ongoing hot and humid weather affecting major cities across the country.
According to the weather department, Lahore recorded a temperature of 34°C on Friday, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach 39°C. Humidity levels remained high at 58 percent, making conditions feel hotter and more uncomfortable despite moderate winds blowing at 6 kilometers per hour.
Meteorologists said there is a 5 to 30 percent chance of rain in Lahore today, although no significant rainfall is expected during the next 24 hours. However, the upcoming weather system could bring showers to several areas from July 19 onward, helping reduce temperatures and humidity levels.
Air quality remains a major concern in Lahore. The city continues to rank among the world's most polluted urban centers and currently stands sixth on the global pollution index. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 155, a level considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Meanwhile, Karachi experienced relatively moderate weather conditions. The minimum temperature was recorded at 28°C, while the current temperature stood at 30°C. Humidity reached 70 percent, with southwesterly winds blowing at 18 kilometers per hour.
The PMD expects Karachi’s maximum temperature to remain between 33°C and 35°C during the day.
Weather experts advise citizens to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and remain updated on weather advisories as the new rain system approaches.
