The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather advisory, forecasting rain and snowfall across several parts of Punjab from December 20 to 22, due to a western weather system moving into the region.
According to the advisory, thunderstorms and rainfall are expected in Rawalpindi, the Potohar region, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Noorpur Thal, and Layyah. Murree and the Galiyat are likely to experience snowfall along with rain, which may disrupt road conditions and pose risks to travelers. Authorities have urged tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during this period.
The PDMA also predicted cloudy weather with light drizzle in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh.
Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafiq recently attended a ceremony at PDMA headquarters regarding snowfall forecasts and winter preparedness. He assured that authorities are coordinating with district administrations to ensure timely emergency responses.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that the control room is operational 24/7, coordinating with district administrations and line departments. Winter tents, snow chains, search and rescue equipment, and other essential supplies have been deployed to Murree.

Facilitation centers for tourists have been established in Murree, while Rescue 1122 and local administrations remain on high alert. Citizens have been advised to exercise caution, use fog lights in low visibility, and contact the PDMA helpline at 1129 in case of emergencies.
Authorities emphasize preparedness to minimize disruption and ensure the safety of residents and visitors across the province during the forecasted weather event.
