The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flash flood advisory for upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as rain and snowfall are expected from January 21 to 24, triggered by a strong western weather system affecting northern Pakistan.
According to PDMA officials, sustained rainfall may lead to a rise in water levels of the Kabul River and its tributaries, increasing the risk of flash flooding in several districts. The advisory has been shared with all concerned district administrations to ensure preparedness.
High-Risk Districts Identified
PDMA has warned that Swat, Chitral, Dir, Buner, Shangla, and surrounding districts are particularly vulnerable. Local administrations have been instructed to remain on high alert, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, and to take precautionary measures in advance.
Rescue and emergency services, including Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence, have been directed to stay on standby throughout the forecast period. Authorities have also been told to ensure timely evacuation of residents from vulnerable locations if required.
Residents living near the Kabul River banks have been advised to exercise caution and strictly follow safety guidelines to avoid any untoward incidents.
