Bank Holidays Explained

Banks will observe three specific holidays during the year. These include January 1, February 18, and July 1. These holidays apply only to banking institutions and related offices.

Optional Holidays Rules

The Punjab government has also clarified optional holiday rules. Muslim employees can avail one optional holiday per year. Non-Muslim employees are allowed to take three optional holidays annually.

All optional leave must receive prior approval from the relevant department head.

Local Holidays Authority

District Commissioners have been given the authority to declare up to two local holidays within their respective districts. However, in Lahore, the provincial government will announce any local holidays directly.

Why This Matters

This holiday calendar is designed to help government departments, employees, and institutions plan work schedules efficiently. Clear rules on public, optional, and local holidays are expected to reduce last-minute confusion and ensure smooth operations throughout 2026.
