A new weather system has entered Punjab, raising concerns over intense cold, rainfall, dense fog, and snowfall across the province in the coming days.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a western weather system has started affecting Punjab from today. As a result, cold weather and foggy conditions are expected to persist in Lahore and several other districts. The PDMA has warned that from January 20 to January 23, heavy snowfall and rain are likely in Murree, Galiyat, and other mountainous areas, while rain is also expected in many plains districts of Punjab.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said that all relevant departments have been placed on high alert in view of the possible severe weather. These include local government bodies, the health department, Rescue 1122, police, forest department, C&W, tourism, and transport authorities. He directed that emergency control rooms remain active 24 hours a day to ensure a swift response to any emergency situation.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department stated that Lahore’s minimum temperature may drop to 4 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is expected to reach around 14 degrees Celsius. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather.
Tourists heading to Murree have been urged to take precautionary measures and strictly follow official instructions. To assist visitors, facilitation centers have been set up at various locations in Murree. The PDMA has appealed to the public to follow safety guidelines and contact the PDMA helpline 1129 in case of any emergency.
