Heavy rain has triggered a high alert in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, with authorities stepping up preparations to deal with possible flooding and urban drainage problems. The Rawalpindi administration has formally declared a rain emergency across the city.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded 43 millimetres of rain each in Saidpur and PMD areas of Islamabad. New Katarian received 12mm, Golra 5mm, Pirodhai 4mm and Shamsabad 2mm of rainfall.

Rescue Agencies on Alert

The Rawalpindi deputy commissioner has directed all emergency, rescue and public service departments to remain fully alert. Officials have been instructed to respond quickly to any emergency caused by continued rainfall.

Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) teams are closely monitoring the water level in Nullah Lai. The water flow was recorded at 5 feet at Katarian and 3 feet at Gawalmandi.

Heavy Losses in KP

Authorities have also reported rain-related damage in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Roofs and walls of houses collapsed during heavy rainfall, killing 2 people and injuring 3 others.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the deceased include a woman and a child. The injured comprise a man, a woman and a child.

Homes Damaged

PDMA reported that 9 houses have been damaged so far. Five houses were partially damaged, while four were completely destroyed.

Officials have been directed to monitor the situation closely and ensure timely relief activities in affected areas as heavy rain continues.
