The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert for parts of Pakistan, warning of possible flooding in vulnerable areas until September 17. The warning covers parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Balochistan.

Areas at risk

The NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center said expected rainfall in upper regions could increase water flows in rivers, streams and nullahs. Mountainous areas may also face flash floods and related hazards.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, the areas at risk include Diamer, Ghizer, Gupis, Yasin, Nagar, Hunza, Shimshal, Skardu and Shigar. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the warning covers Upper Dir, Swat, Bajaur, Malakand, Kurram, Kohistan, Mohmand and Orakzai.

Punjab and Balochistan warning

In Punjab, urban flooding is possible in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Sheikhupura. Balochistan’s Zhob, Sherani and Musakhel districts have also been identified as vulnerable.

The authority has directed relevant departments to complete preparations for possible flooding and maintain readiness for emergency response. Residents in vulnerable areas should monitor official weather updates and follow safety instructions issued by local administrations.
