Severe dense fog across Punjab has continued to disrupt road travel, forcing authorities to close several major motorways for traffic as visibility dropped to dangerously low levels in plain areas of the province.
According to the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP), the M-3 Motorway has been closed from Faizpur to Samundri due to extremely poor visibility. Similarly, traffic on the M-4 Motorway remains suspended from Shorkot to Abdul Hakeem, while the M-5 Motorway is closed from Shershah to Zahir Pir because of persistent fog.
Officials also confirmed that the Lahore–Sialkot Motorway (M-11) has been shut from Lahore to Sambrial, adding to commuters’ difficulties. In addition to motorways, dense fog has affected traffic flow on several major highways and urban routes in Lahore, Manga Mandi, Phool Nagar, and Pattoki, where motorists reported near-zero visibility during night and early morning hours.
The Motorway Police stated that the closures were implemented strictly to ensure public safety, as fog-related accidents pose a serious risk during winter. Authorities warned that fog conditions may persist or re-emerge during late-night and early-morning hours over the next few days.

Motorway Police Safety Advisory
Despite partial reopening in some areas, the NHMP has urged motorists to strictly follow safety guidelines during foggy conditions:
- Reduce speed and drive cautiously
- Use fog lights and low-beam headlights
- Maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead
- Avoid sudden braking and abrupt lane changes
- Follow lane discipline at all times
- Prefer travel between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm
- Avoid unnecessary travel at night and early morning
Commuters have also been advised to use alternative routes such as GT Road where feasible.
Ongoing Monitoring and Helpline
Authorities emphasized that fog conditions can worsen suddenly during winter. Motorists are advised to stay updated through official traffic advisories and contact the Motorway Police helpline 130 for real-time route updates, travel guidance, or emergency assistance.
The NHMP reiterated that public cooperation is crucial to prevent accidents and ensure road safety during the ongoing winter fog season, warning that additional closures may be imposed if visibility deteriorates further.
