(Web Desk): Dense fog disrupts travel across Punjab as major motorways remain closed, with visibility dropping to zero in several areas, prompting safety warnings.

The dense fog situation across Punjab remains critical as multiple motorways and key highways were closed again today due to dangerously low visibility, raising serious concerns for motorists and commuters.

According to the Motorway Police Central Region spokesperson, traffic flow has been suspended at several locations to protect public lives and property. The M-2 Motorway from Lahore to Kot Momin has been completely closed due to severe fog conditions.

Similarly, M-3 (Faizpur to Darkhana), M-4 (Pindi Bhattian to Multan), and M-5 (Multan to Zahir Pir) have been shut for traffic as visibility continues to deteriorate. In addition, the M-11 Motorway (Lahore to Sambrial) and the Lahore Eastern Bypass are also closed due to persistent fog.

The National Highway has also been affected, with dense fog reported in Lahore, Manga Mandi, Pattoki, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasowal, and Iqbal Nagar. Extremely low visibility conditions have been observed in Mian Channu, Khanewal, Multan, Lodhran, and Bahawalpur, where visibility has dropped to 0–100 meters, posing an extreme risk for road users.

Motorway Police warned that over-speeding, lane violations, sudden braking, and abrupt lane changes during fog can lead to fatal accidents. Authorities have strongly advised motorists to strictly follow lane discipline, reduce speed, and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours.

Officials stated that safe travel timings during foggy conditions are between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. Drivers have been instructed to use fog lights and low-beam headlights, maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead, and remain alert at all times.

Commuters were also advised to consider alternative routes such as GT Road where feasible. The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) emphasized that fog conditions can worsen suddenly during the winter season, and additional closures may be imposed if visibility declines further.

For real-time traffic updates, route guidance, or emergency assistance, citizens can contact the Motorway Police helpline 130. Authorities reiterated that public cooperation is essential to ensure road safety amid the ongoing winter fog spell.
