(Web Desk): Dense fog has forced the closure of multiple motorway sections across Punjab, as the Motorway Police suspended traffic to prevent accidents amid extremely low visibility, disrupting travel on key routes linking major cities.

According to Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed, several motorway sections were shut due to zero visibility conditions. Motorway M-3 was closed from Jaranwala to Darkhana, M-4 from Faisalabad to Multan, and M-5 from Multan to Rohri after fog reduced visibility to dangerous levels.

The spokesperson said the closures were imposed as a precautionary measure to protect lives and property, warning that travel during dense fog poses serious risks and significantly increases the likelihood of fatal accidents. He stressed that speeding and lane violations in such conditions can lead to major collisions even with minor lapses in judgment.

In addition to the motorway closures, severe fog has also affected several national highway routes. Areas facing poor visibility include Kassowal, Iqbal Nagar, Chichawatni, Mian Channu, Khanewal, Multan, Basti Malook, Lodhran, and Bahawalpur, causing further disruption to road traffic across central and southern Punjab.

The Motorway Police strongly advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly during late night and early morning hours when fog intensity is highest. Authorities noted that visibility generally improves between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, making daytime travel comparatively safer during foggy weather.

Drivers who must travel have been urged to strictly follow lane discipline, use fog lights, reduce speed, and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead. Motorists were also advised to avoid sudden braking and remain alert, as fog conditions can deteriorate rapidly without warning.

The Motorway Police further recommended the use of alternative routes such as the Grand Trunk (GT) Road where possible. Commuters were urged to stay updated through official advisories and to contact the Motorway Police helpline 130 for real-time guidance, route updates, or emergency assistance.

Authorities emphasized that public cooperation is essential to prevent accidents and ensure road safety until weather conditions improve and full motorway operations can safely resume.
