(Web Desk): Severe motorway fog and zero visibility conditions forced the Motorway Police to suspend traffic on several major routes across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the Motorway M-5, which was closed from Multan to Zahir Pir due to dense fog, raising serious travel safety concerns.

According to the Motorway Police, the motorway closure due to fog was enforced to protect lives and property as visibility dropped to dangerously low levels. Thick fog blanketed large parts of Punjab and KP late at night and during early morning hours, making driving extremely hazardous and disrupting routine travel.

Besides the M-5, authorities temporarily closed multiple sections of the motorway network. These included M-1 from Peshawar to Rashakai, M-2 from Lahore to Kot Momin, M-3 from Faizpur to Rajana, and M-11 from Lahore to Sialkot. Several stretches of the National Highway were also affected, further compounding travel difficulties for commuters.

A spokesperson for the Motorway Police said traffic suspensions were a precautionary measure taken amid motorway zero visibility, stressing that lane violations and speeding in foggy conditions significantly increase the risk of fatal accidents. Motorists were warned that even a minor lapse in judgment could lead to serious collisions during dense fog.

Drivers have been strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel and, if travel is unavoidable, to prefer daytime hours. Authorities noted that 10:00 am to 6:00 pm is generally considered safer for travel during foggy weather. Motorists were also instructed to strictly follow lane discipline, use fog lights, reduce speed, and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead.

The Motorway Police further advised travelers to use alternative routes such as the Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) where possible and to remain alert as fog conditions can worsen suddenly, particularly late at night and early in the morning.

Commuters were urged to stay updated with official advisories and to contact the Motorway Police helpline 130 for real-time guidance, route updates, or emergency assistance. Authorities emphasized that public cooperation is essential to prevent accidents until weather conditions improve and full motorway operations can safely resume.
