Motorway M-2 connecting Lahore and Islamabad, M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad, and the M-11 Lahore–Sialkot Motorway were reopened as visibility conditions improved, allowing safe travel for commuters.
Motorway Closures Due to Fog:
Earlier, the M-2, M-4, and M-11 were closed for several hours due to dense fog blanketing Punjab, which drastically reduced visibility and heightened the risk of road accidents. Motorway authorities stated that closures are standard practice during night and early morning hours in winter, when visibility can drop to dangerously low levels. The closures aimed to prevent collisions and ensure the safety of motorists traveling between major cities.
Official Statements:
A spokesperson for the motorway authorities confirmed that M-2 traffic resumed after visibility improved along the Lahore–Islamabad route. Similarly, M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad and the Lahore segment of M-4 were reopened once conditions were deemed safe. The M-11 Lahore–Sialkot Motorway also reopened after authorities monitored the improvement in fog conditions.

Safety Advisory for Motorists:
Despite the reopening, officials cautioned drivers that fog is expected to return during the late-night and early-morning hours. The NHMP issued a set of guidelines for safe driving during foggy conditions:
- Reduce speed and drive cautiously
- Use fog lights and low-beam headlights
- Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead
- Avoid sudden lane changes or abrupt braking
- Monitor travel advisories before starting the journey
Continued Monitoring and Alerts:
Authorities emphasized that motorists should stay alert and keep track of official updates on fog-related closures. Additional restrictions may be imposed if visibility decreases again, particularly on high-speed routes connecting major urban centers. The NHMP reiterated that public cooperation is essential to ensure safe travel during the ongoing winter fog season.
