Cold wave hits Pakistan: Rain, snow expected in Northern areas
(Web Desk): Islamabad, Lahore, and northern Pakistan brace for a fresh cold wave, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts rain and snow in several regions.

In Islamabad, isolated rainfall is expected at some locations. Northern Punjab districts—including Narowal, Sialkot, and Jhelum—may also experience rain, while most of the province will remain cold and dry. Hilly areas such as Murree and Galiyat are likely to see rain accompanied by snowfall.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts including Abbottabad, Mansehra, Batagram, Kohistan, Dir, and Swat are expected to witness scattered rain and snow. Similarly, parts of Gilgit-Baltistan may experience snowfall. In contrast, most districts of Sindh will remain cold and dry.

Lahore, already struggling with severe air pollution, has seen the city ranked 7th among the world’s most polluted cities. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Lahore reached 184 overall, with DHA Phase 8 recording the highest AQI at 423, followed by Wahdat Road at 348 and Thokar Niaz Beg at 324.

The weather department reported that Lahore’s temperatures are expected to range from a low of 8°C to a high of 21°C, with wind speeds at 3 km/h. Authorities have advised residents to take precautions against pollution exposure and stay updated on weather alerts.
