(Web Desk): Under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of a “Smog-Free Punjab,” the provincial government has accelerated its campaign to combat air pollution and enforce environmental protection laws across the province.

According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, extensive anti-smog operations have been launched this year to curb pollution caused by vehicles, industries, and agricultural burning. So far, 824 cases have been registered and 775 suspects arrested in connection with smog-related violations across Punjab.

In Lahore alone, police have arrested 41 offenders and registered 34 cases as part of the anti-smog crackdown. The operation also targeted vehicular emissions — with more than 290,000 vehicles fined for emitting excessive smoke, while over 24,000 vehicles were taken off the road and 283 fitness certificates suspended for non-compliance.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed the officers to carry out increased inspections in industrial areas, farming lands, and main highways with zero tolerance for any breach of smog control SOPs.
