PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that this spell of monsoon rain is expected to persist until tomorrow (Wednesday), with heavier downpours likely in various parts of Punjab within the next 24 hours. He urged residents to exercise caution, warning that the weather could intensify further.
In light of the situation, citizens are advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms and avoid seeking shelter in structurally weak or damaged buildings, particularly in rural regions where heavy rainfall could lead to further deterioration.
The PDMA is maintaining constant communication with district administrations and continues to monitor the evolving weather conditions to ensure timely emergency response and public safety.
According to the PDMA, from July 8 to July 9, heavy rains may generate flash floods in local streams of Murree, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Galiyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast Punjab, Kashmir and Balochistan. Downpour may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar.
