Pakistan has officially launched its first-ever ferry service, a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening maritime trade and boosting the country’s Blue Economy. The inauguration ceremony of the new ferry terminal in Karachi was attended by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, who described the event as “a huge honor” and a major milestone for the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chaudhry recalled that when he became minister seven months ago, the port sector faced numerous challenges. “The Prime Minister entrusted me with the responsibility to improve ports and strengthen the maritime sector. The ferry service was always on my mind,” he said.

Chaudhry revealed that prior initiatives in the past had stalled, with licenses not being issued even after years. “After five years of delays, our team issued Pakistan’s first ferry license within just seven days,” he added, emphasizing the government’s efficiency in reviving confidence among the business community.

The minister highlighted that this initiative aligns with the vision of the Prime Minister and field marshals to strengthen the Blue Economy. He congratulated his team and private investors for taking bold steps to make the project a reality. “This service will ensure safe travel while boosting economic stability. When investors step forward, institutions grow, and the nation’s economy strengthens,” he noted.
