When will employees get paid each month? Big relief for Punjab workers
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure that workers under the Suthra Punjab programme receive their salaries before the 5th of every month.
She also warned that companies failing to make timely payments could face strict action.
Following her instructions, salary payments have reportedly been completed for workers of 149 out of 151 Suthra Punjab companies. Action has also been ordered against a company accused of failing to pay workers in Rajanpur’s Rojhan and Layyah’s Choubara areas.
Crackdown on Poor Performance
Maryam Nawaz ordered strict legal action over negligence and alleged irregularities in cleanliness operations.
She said corruption and carelessness in Suthra Punjab operations would not be tolerated, stressing that employees must work in the field rather than simply collect salaries while sitting in offices.
The MD of WASA has been directed to spend at least two hours in the field daily, while TMO and FMO officials must inspect at least five union councils every day.
New Anti-Littering Squads
The chief minister also ordered the activation of Suthra Punjab anti-littering squads at every divisional headquarters.
Riding e-bikes, the squads will monitor streets, markets and neighbourhoods for littering and cleanliness issues. Workers will also be required to carry garbage bags as part of the cleanliness drive.
Citizens Could Get Rewards
Residents who consistently maintain cleanliness around commercial and residential areas may receive an “Environment-Friendly Citizen” sticker, along with possible gifts or certificates.
Maryam Nawaz said she would personally monitor the performance of Suthra Punjab companies and ordered continued action against absenteeism, poor drainage and unresolved public complaints.
