Visit visa warning issued for Pakistanis seeking jobs abroad
Officials say promises of jobs or visa conversion without official confirmation can lead to serious problems.
Warning for visit visa travellers
The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment has warned Pakistanis travelling abroad on visit or tourist visas for employment purposes. Authorities said relying on an unregistered agent or sub-agent could create legal and financial difficulties.
Officials said some agents promise that travellers will get jobs soon after reaching another country. Some also claim that a visit visa can easily be changed into a work visa, but citizens have been told not to trust such claims without official verification.
Serious risks of illegal work
Authorities have clarified that a visit or tourist visa generally does not allow a person to work. Any visa change depends on the laws of the destination country and an official decision by the authorised immigration authority.
People working illegally may face arrest, detention, legal action, fines and deportation. They may also face a long-term or permanent travel ban, which could affect future visa applications and legal employment opportunities.
Check agents and job documents
The Bureau of Emigration has advised Pakistanis to contact only licensed Overseas Employment Promoters for jobs abroad. Before accepting a job, citizens should verify the promoter’s licence, job offer and Foreign Service Agreement through official sources.
Authorities have also advised people not to give money or original documents to unauthorised agents, sub-agents or social media accounts. Payments should be made through legal channels and an official receipt should always be obtained.
Get legal protection before departure
Travellers should obtain a valid work visa, written employment contract and other required documents before leaving Pakistan. They should also carefully check details about salary, duties, working hours, accommodation, transport, medical facilities, holidays and return arrangements.
The bureau said Pakistani workers should also obtain legal protection from the relevant Protector of Emigrants before travelling abroad. This can help ensure that workers receive the required legal protection and facilities during their employment journey.
