KARACHI (Web Desk): Sindh’s new facial recognition attendance system faces technical problems on its first day, forcing some government school employees to use manual attendance during the pilot phase.

The system, known as the Facial Recognition Attendance Monitoring and Evaluation System (FRAMES), has been introduced to digitally monitor the attendance of school employees.

Technical issues during the initial rollout forced some staff members to rely on manual attendance procedures. Authorities are expected to examine these problems as part of the pilot phase before deciding whether the system is ready for wider use.

FRAMES launched in six districts

The pilot project has been launched in six districts of Sindh. These include Karachi East, Hyderabad, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Ghotki and Umerkot.

The trial covers 49,565 teaching and non-teaching employees working in government schools across these districts. The pilot phase is intended to help authorities assess how effectively the new digital attendance system works in different school environments.

How the new attendance system works

Under FRAMES, school employees are required to mark their attendance when they arrive at school.

They must also record their attendance when leaving at the end of the working day. The application uses facial recognition technology to verify an employee’s identity and record the time of attendance.

The system is intended to provide authorities with a more accurate digital record of staff attendance. It could also reduce reliance on traditional attendance registers if the technology works reliably after the pilot phase.

System designed to work without internet

One of the features of the new application is its ability to operate without an internet connection. This feature could help schools in areas where internet services are weak or unavailable. Employees can also use the application to submit leave applications through the system.

The app allows staff members to access or download their monthly attendance records. These features are intended to make attendance management easier for both employees and education authorities.

Technical problems emerge during pilot

The technical difficulties reported on the first day have raised questions about the system’s initial performance. Some employees were unable to use the digital system properly and had to rely on manual attendance procedures.

However, the problems have emerged during the pilot phase, which is designed to identify weaknesses before the system is expanded. Authorities can use feedback from employees and schools to identify technical issues and make necessary improvements.

Nearly 50,000 school employees covered

The pilot covers 49,565 teaching and non-teaching employees. The large number of users makes the trial an important test for Sindh’s plan to introduce technology-based attendance monitoring across government schools.

A system involving thousands of employees needs to remain reliable during both morning arrival and afternoon departure. Authorities will therefore need to assess whether the application can handle the number of users without repeated technical problems.

Attendance records to become more accessible

FRAMES is also expected to give employees greater access to their attendance information. Through the application, staff members can view and download their monthly attendance records.

The digital system could make it easier for employees to check their attendance and for authorities to monitor records. If implemented successfully, the system could also provide education officials with quicker access to attendance data.

Expansion depends on pilot results

Authorities plan to review the results of the pilot before expanding FRAMES to more government schools across Sindh.

The technical problems reported during the initial rollout will likely form part of that assessment. Officials will need to determine whether the system can operate consistently and whether schools have the necessary technical support.
