ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Sohail Chaudhry has assumed charge as Islamabad police chief, announcing plans to improve security, crime prevention and public services.

Mohammad Sohail Chaudhry has formally taken charge as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad. Ali Wasim has also assumed charge as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations.

The appointments bring new leadership to the capital’s police force, with both officers outlining priorities focused on public safety, accountability and improved policing.

Sohail Chaudhry welcomed at Central Police Office

Sohail Chaudhry was welcomed by senior police officers and officials upon arriving at the Central Police Office. A formal change-of-command ceremony was held, during which a police contingent presented him with a salute.

After taking charge, the new IGP held introductory meetings with senior officers. He received detailed briefings on professional, operational and departmental matters.

Chaudhry also met members of the Central Police Office staff and discussed issues related to the department’s working and administration.

He later visited the Martyrs’ Memorial at the Islamabad Police headquarters. The IGP laid a floral wreath and offered prayers in honour of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

New IGP outlines priorities for Islamabad police

During his initial meetings, Chaudhry said maintaining law and order and protecting citizens would remain the foremost priorities of Islamabad police.

He stressed that citizens should receive timely and effective police services. He also said there would be no compromise on merit, transparency and the rule of law.

The IGP said the professional capabilities of the police force would be further improved. He also directed that effective steps be taken to prevent crime and protect the lives and property of residents.

Traffic management and public facilities in the federal capital were also included among his priorities. The focus is expected to cover both policing operations and services that directly affect citizens.
