He said the emergency service had also saved 5,238 lives in different accidents.
The service currently receives more than 10,000 calls every day, showing the scale of demand for emergency assistance in the province.
Rescue 1122 is currently operating with 149 vehicles and 1,723 personnel, according to the briefing given to the council. The figures were presented as part of the department’s performance review during the meeting.
Rs30 million martyr package approved
The council also approved a Rs30 million martyr package for Rescue 1122 employees. The package is aimed at providing financial support in cases where rescue personnel lose their lives while performing their duties.
The meeting also approved the 7% salary increase for Rescue 1122 employees. The measures were discussed as part of broader efforts to improve the welfare and support available to emergency service workers.
Contract workers get one-year extension

The decision also provides greater job continuity for employees currently working on contracts. Officials reviewed the staffing situation along with other administrative matters during the meeting.
Health insurance and pensions under review
The council also discussed health insurance and pension-related matters for Rescue 1122 employees.
It decided to forward these issues to the provincial cabinet after completing the necessary consultations. The move could lead to further decisions on welfare benefits for rescue workers.
