The Government of Pakistan has approved a major airport security upgrade, introducing a unified screening system at all airports to streamline passenger checks and enhance overall safety standards.
The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, aimed at improving coordination between the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defence.
Unified Screening System to Replace Multiple Checks
Under the new policy, all relevant security and regulatory agencies will conduct joint passenger screening through a single scanner, eliminating the need for multiple checks at different counters.
Officials say this move will:
- Reduce passenger wait times
- Improve coordination among agencies
- Enhance efficiency in airport operations
Modern Screening Technology to Be Installed
Authorities have also approved the installation of state-of-the-art screening machines across airports. These advanced systems are expected to:
- Strengthen aviation security
- Minimize congestion at checkpoints
- Ensure faster and more accurate screening
Focus on Passenger Facilitation and Efficiency
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that the unified system will significantly improve the travel experience by saving time and simplifying security procedures.
The initiative reflects Pakistan’s broader effort to modernize aviation infrastructure and align with global standards in airport security and passenger facilitation.
Integration with Digital Systems and Automation
Officials revealed that the upgrade is part of a wider modernization plan, which includes:
- Biometric verification systems
- Automated immigration clearance
- Introduction of e-gates
These technologies aim to bring Pakistan’s airports in line with international trends in integrated airport security systems.
Phased Implementation Across Major Airports
The new system will be rolled out in phases across major airports in Pakistan. Authorities are also focusing on strengthening institutional coordination to ensure smooth implementation and long-term efficiency.
