LAHORE (Web Desk): Punjab to install Safe City cameras across union councils for better security as the government launches a major Rs5 billion surveillance expansion plan.

The Punjab government has decided to expand its digital monitoring system to strengthen security at the local level across the province. The move aims to improve surveillance and reduce street crime.

Under the new plan, Safe City cameras will be installed in streets, neighborhoods, and public areas of all union councils in Punjab. Around 7,000 union councils will be covered under this large-scale project.

Officials said the working papers for the project have been completed. A formal summary has been sent to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for final approval.

The project is estimated to cost Rs5 billion. Authorities say this will be one of the largest security expansion programs in the province.

According to officials, a modern monitoring system will also be established at the union council level. This system will help authorities keep a real-time watch over streets and local areas.

The government said the main goal of this project is to reduce street crime, improve response time, and increase public safety across Punjab.

Officials added that the expansion of the Safe City system will bring advanced surveillance technology closer to communities and help build a safer environment for citizens.
