Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology has activated an advanced digital system to implement the Prime Minister’s special petrol relief scheme. The initiative aims to reduce fuel costs for low-income workers and small-vehicle owners facing financial pressure.

The system has been developed in collaboration with provincial departments, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), and telecommunications operators. It is designed to automate eligibility checks and ensure that subsidies reach deserving citizens through a transparent process.

Who can benefit from the scheme?

The relief programme covers owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi vehicles, and cars with engine capacities of up to 800cc. Eligible beneficiaries will receive a discount of Rs100 per litre on petrol under the scheme.

Motorcycle and Qingqi owners will be entitled to subsidised petrol for up to 20 litres per month. Owners of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc will receive a monthly limit of 30 litres.

Automated verification to ensure transparency

The government has coordinated with provincial transport and excise departments to automate vehicle verification. This digital process is intended to improve transparency, reduce administrative delays, and help prevent misuse of the subsidy.

The scheme is aimed at easing the impact of rising petrol prices on workers and families who rely on affordable transport for their daily activities.
