Quetta (Web Desk): Quetta will get 17 more electric buses as authorities expand the Green Bus Service to areas with limited public transport and work to improve facilities for commuters across the provincial capital.

Quetta to receive 17 more electric buses

The new buses will help extend public transport services to areas of the provincial capital where residents currently have limited connectivity. The expansion was announced by Quetta Division Commissioner Zeeshan Lashari during a meeting held to review the Green Bus Service.

The meeting focused on the facilities available to commuters and ways to improve the service. Officials also reviewed the existing routes, bus stops and operational arrangements.

25 Green Buses already operating

Officials told the meeting that 25 Green Buses are currently operating in Quetta. The existing fleet includes four buses reserved exclusively for women.

The women-only buses are intended to provide female passengers with a more convenient and comfortable travel option.

Female staff have also been deployed on the women-only buses. The arrangement is aimed at providing additional support to women passengers during their daily journeys.

Four routes operating in Quetta

The Green Bus Service currently operates on four routes across Quetta. According to officials, the buses run from 7am to 9pm. Several bus stops have been established along the routes to make the service more accessible to commuters.

The routes cover important parts of the city and connect residential and commercial areas. Authorities are now looking to expand the network further so that more residents can benefit from the service.

Kuchlak route has around 40 stops

Officials said the Kuchlak route has around 40 bus stops. The large number of stops allows passengers in different areas along the route to access the Green Bus Service.

The route is part of the existing network serving Quetta and surrounding areas. Further expansion through the addition of new buses is expected to improve the frequency and availability of public transport.

Around 50 stops connect Sariab Road

The meeting was also informed that approximately 50 bus stops connect the Metropolitan area with Sariab Road. The route serves a large number of commuters and provides an important public transport link within the city.

Authorities are reviewing the existing arrangements to identify areas where facilities can be improved. The addition of more buses could help strengthen the service and provide passengers with more travel options.

Green Bus Service expands beyond Quetta

The Green Bus Service has also expanded to Turbat. Officials said four buses are currently operating in the city. The expansion beyond Quetta shows that the electric bus initiative is being extended to other parts of Balochistan.

The authorities are using the service to provide modern public transport options in areas where residents rely on limited transportation facilities. The experience of operating buses in Quetta and Turbat could also help officials assess future expansion plans.

Focus on better facilities for commuters

The meeting, chaired by Commissioner Zeeshan Lashari, also reviewed the facilities being provided to passengers.

Officials discussed the operation of buses, routes and bus stops, along with other facilities available to commuters. Improving these services is important as more people begin relying on public transport for daily travel.

Authorities are expected to focus on keeping routes operational and ensuring that passengers can access buses conveniently. The addition of 17 buses could also provide greater capacity across the existing network.

Women-only buses remain part of service

Women-only buses are a notable feature of the Quetta Green Bus Service. Four buses have been allocated exclusively for female passengers. Female staff are deployed on these buses to assist women using the service.

The arrangement is intended to make public transport more accessible to women and provide them with a dedicated travel option. The authorities have continued to include women-focused facilities as part of the public transport system.

What the expansion means for Quetta

The planned addition of 17 electric buses could increase the number of vehicles available to commuters across Quetta. More buses may also help authorities extend services to areas that currently have fewer public transport options.

For passengers, better connectivity can make daily travel easier for work, education, shopping and other activities. The expansion will also require proper management of routes, stops and operating schedules to ensure that the additional buses are used effectively.

Electric buses bring a modern transport option

Electric buses offer an alternative to conventional public transport vehicles. Their use in urban areas is part of a broader move towards cleaner and more modern transportation systems.

For Quetta, the expansion of the Green Bus Service could provide residents with additional public transport choices while increasing coverage across the city. Authorities will also need to maintain the buses, routes and passenger facilities as the network grows.
