PMD warns of urban flooding as heavy rain hits Lahore, Islamabad
A fresh wave of monsoon showers swept across several cities in Pakistan on Tuesday, bringing pleasant weather to Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas. However, the rain also disrupted electricity supply in several localities after power feeders tripped.
According to the PMD, Lahore received rainfall at several locations across the city. Pani Wala Talab recorded the highest rainfall at 19.6mm, followed by Lakshmi Chowk with 15.2mm, Chowk Nakhuda with 13.2mm, Mughalpura with 7.8mm, Tajpura with 4.4mm, Farrukhabad with 1mm, Upper Mall with 0.8mm, and Saggian with 0.2mm.
The Met Office said Lahore’s temperature was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature is expected to remain around 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is likely to reach 33 degrees Celsius.
Intermittent rainfall is expected in Lahore and several other districts of Punjab until August 5. Officials have also warned that continued rainfall could raise water levels in rivers, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
Rain was also reported in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Wazirabad, Phalia, Muridke, Gujranwala, Khanpur, and Haripur. The showers brought much-needed relief from the hot and humid weather as dark clouds covered the skies across many regions.

Despite the pleasant weather, the PMD has warned that heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi, particularly where drainage systems are under pressure.
The weather department has also cautioned that flash floods may occur in vulnerable areas, while landslides remain a serious threat in hilly regions during the ongoing monsoon spell.
In addition, the PMD has forecast another spell of monsoon rainfall in parts of Sindh from July 31 to August 2. Authorities have advised provincial administrations to remain alert and take precautionary measures to minimise the impact of heavy rainfall.
Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, stay away from flooded roads, underpasses, and streams, and follow official weather advisories to ensure their safety.
Emergency services have also been directed to remain prepared to respond quickly to any flooding or other rain-related emergencies, as wet weather is expected to continue over the coming days.
