Petrol levy hike adds fuel to rising prices shock
Petrol levy hike adds fresh pressure as government raises charges by Rs 26 77 per litre following a recent fuel price increase.
According to sources in the Petroleum Division, the levy on petrol has been significantly increased by Rs 26 77 per litre. After this adjustment, the total levy on petrol has reached Rs 107 38 per litre, marking a sharp rise that is likely to impact consumers across the country.
This development comes shortly after the government announced an increase in petroleum prices for a one-week period. Officials say the move is part of ongoing fiscal measures aimed at managing revenue and economic challenges.
As per the official notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the new price of petrol has been set at Rs 393 35 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel has been fixed at Rs 380 19 per litre. These revised rates are already in effect and are expected to influence transportation and commodity prices.
Economic experts warn that the combined impact of higher fuel prices and increased levy could lead to further inflation. Transport costs are likely to rise, which may push up the prices of essential goods in the coming days.
