The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has classified 201 bottled and mineral water brands as overall safe in its latest quarterly quality assessment.

PCRWR tested 230 brands collected from markets in 20 cities. Of these, 201 were found safe in both chemical and microbiological testing, while 29 were classified as unsafe.

Testing covered 20 cities

PCRWR collected samples from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Tando Jam, Gujranwala, Badin, Sialkot, Dera Ismail Khan, Bahawalpur, Karachi, Lahore, Mianwali, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit and Sukkur.

The council collected four bottles of each brand and used separate samples for microbiological and physicochemical analysis.

The assessment found 220 brands chemically safe and 208 microbiologically safe. The remaining 29 brands were classified as unsafe, highlighting continuing concerns over bottled water quality and consumer safety.
