(Web Desk): The government is expected to revise fuel prices, with petrol likely to become cheaper while diesel may see a sharp increase in the latest weekly adjustment.

The federal government is set to announce new petroleum product prices today as part of its weekly fuel price review mechanism, with mixed changes expected for consumers across the country.

Following recent policy changes after regional tensions, Pakistan now adjusts fuel prices on a weekly basis instead of every 15 days. The latest revision is expected to be announced tonight after consultation with the prime minister.

According to media reports, petrol prices may witness a reduction of around Rs 3 to Rs 4 per litre, while high-speed diesel could see a significant increase of Rs 34 to Rs 35 per litre, driven by fluctuations in the international oil market.

Last week, the government had already reduced petrol and diesel prices by Rs 22 per litre, bringing current rates to approximately Rs 381.78 per litre for petrol and Rs 380.78 per litre for diesel.

The Ministry of Finance will finalize the new prices in coordination with the prime minister before issuing an official notification.

Meanwhile, the fuel situation in parts of Balochistan remains critical. Reports suggest that petrol prices in some areas, including Quetta, have surged significantly, reaching as high as Rs 500 per litre. Shortages have also been reported, forcing several filling stations to shut down, while operational pumps are witnessing long queues of vehicles.

Energy analysts say ongoing volatility in global oil markets continues to impact domestic pricing, creating uncertainty for both consumers and businesses.
