Pakistan Railways to resume Babu Passenger Train after six years
The return of the train is expected to provide another travel option for passengers commuting between Lahore, Lala Musa, and cities along the route. The service was suspended during the coronavirus pandemic and remained out of operation for several years.
Train to operate between Lahore and Lala Musa
The Babu Passenger Train operates on the Lahore-Lala Musa route and serves several stations along the way.
The route includes Badami Bagh, Shahdara Bagh, Kala Shah Kaku, Muridke, Sadhoki, Kamoki, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Gujrat and Lala Musa.
The restoration will reconnect these stations through the passenger service after a lengthy suspension. For daily commuters and other passengers, the return of the train could provide an additional and convenient travel option.
Passengers demand restoration of service
According to the announcement, passengers had repeatedly called for the Babu Passenger Train to be restored. The government considered these demands while reviewing public transport needs before deciding to bring the service back.
The decision reflects efforts to restore railway services that were suspended during and after the pandemic. The train’s return could particularly benefit passengers who regularly travel between the towns and cities along the Lahore-Lala Musa route.
Railway minister announces return
Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi said the Babu Passenger Train would resume operations on August 20. He said the restoration was part of efforts to make Pakistan Railways more active and responsive to passengers’ needs.
The minister also said the government planned to increase facilities for passengers and improve railway services. Better facilities and the restoration of suspended routes are expected to form part of broader efforts to improve the passenger experience across the railway network.
More suspended trains may return
Abbasi also said Pakistan Railways would restore more suspended trains during the current year. The planned restoration of additional services could provide passengers with more travel options across different parts of the country.

The Babu Passenger Train is among the services being brought back following passenger demands and consideration of public requirements. The government has not provided details about all the other trains that may be restored.
Prime Minister’s vision for Pakistan Railways
The railway minister said the restoration was in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision for making Pakistan Railways more active. The government is seeking to improve passenger services and provide better facilities as part of its plans for the railway sector.
The restoration of old routes and services could help increase the use of rail travel while providing affordable transport options to passengers. The effectiveness of these efforts will depend on reliable operations, proper maintenance, and improved passenger facilities.
What the train’s return means for passengers
The Babu Passenger Train’s return is expected to bring relief to passengers who have been waiting for the service to resume. People travelling between Lahore, Lala Musa and intermediate stations will once again have access to the restored rail connection.
The service could also help ease pressure on other forms of public transport along the route. Passengers will be able to use the train from August 20, subject to the operational arrangements announced by Pakistan Railways.
