Pakistan Railways restores Babu Passenger train after six years
The 205 Up and 206 Down service resumed on the Lahore-Lala Musa-Lahore route on August 20, according to Pakistan Railways.
The restoration gives passengers another low-cost option for travelling between Lahore and several major cities in Punjab. The service had been suspended shortly after the Covid-19 pandemic began.
Train to run daily between Lahore and Lala Musa
The Babu Passenger train will operate daily between Lahore and Lala Musa.
The train will depart from Lahore Railway Station at 4:40 p.m. and reach Lala Musa at 7:45 p.m. During the journey, it will stop at Gujranwala, Wazirabad and Gujrat, allowing passengers from these areas to use the service.
The return journey will begin from Lala Musa at 5:10 a.m. and reach Lahore at 8:15 a.m. The morning service is expected to be convenient for passengers travelling to Lahore for work and other daily activities.
Five economy coaches offer affordable travel
The restored train consists of five economy-class coaches and a power van. The economy-class arrangement is expected to make the service an affordable choice for passengers travelling along the route.
The train connects several important cities and towns in Punjab, where many people rely on public transport for their daily commute. The restoration could therefore provide some relief to passengers looking for a lower-cost alternative to road travel.
Passengers welcome return of historic service
Railway officials decorated the train before it departed from Lahore on Thursday to mark the restoration of the service. Passengers welcomed the return of the Babu Passenger train and appreciated the resumption of the route.

The service had remained unavailable for years, leaving commuters to rely on other forms of transport during the suspension. Its return is expected to provide passengers with another option for travelling between Lahore, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Gujrat and Lala Musa.
Pakistan Railways promises better facilities
Lahore Divisional Superintendent Inamullah said the restoration would benefit commuters travelling along the route. He said Pakistan Railways would take further steps to improve travel facilities for passengers.
The railway official added that the department would continue working to provide safe, comfortable and punctual services. The focus on punctuality and passenger facilities could be important in encouraging more people to use the restored train service.
Why the restoration matters
The return of the Babu Passenger train comes after a long gap and could improve public transport options for commuters in Punjab. Passengers travelling between Lahore and Lala Musa can now use a dedicated railway service instead of depending entirely on road transport.
The stops at Gujranwala, Wazirabad and Gujrat also make the train useful for passengers from several major urban areas along the route. For daily commuters, the affordable economy-class service could help reduce transportation expenses.
