Pakistan is celebrating its 79th Independence Day with national pride, colourful events and a renewed pledge to build a strong and prosperous Islamic welfare state.

The day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered at mosques after Fajr for peace, unity, stability and prosperity.

Across the country, flag-hoisting ceremonies were held at provincial, divisional and district headquarters. Government buildings, streets, markets and public places were decorated with national flags, buntings and colourful lights.

On the eve of Independence Day, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir jointly inaugurated the Yadgar-e-Fatah monument in Islamabad.

The monument commemorates Pakistan’s claimed victory during the May 2025 conflict with India. The government has described the confrontation as a major moment for the country’s armed forces and national resolve.

The celebrations are highlighting Pakistan’s cultural heritage and the sacrifices made by the leaders and people of the Pakistan Movement. Seminars, exhibitions, cultural programmes and other activities are being organised across the country.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has also released a national song, “Mera Pyara Watan Pakistan,” marking the occasion. The song focuses on love for the homeland, unity and national spirit.

Independence Day celebrations are also being observed with enthusiasm in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The nationwide festivities are giving citizens an opportunity to celebrate freedom while renewing their commitment to unity, discipline, tolerance and collective efforts for Pakistan’s future.
