Construction work on bus stop sheds for the expanding electric bus network in Rawalpindi is expected to be completed within a week, paving the way for the launch of new e-bus services at Marqa-i-Haq Square, formerly known as Kutchery Chowk.

According to district administration officials, multiple bus bays are being developed at key locations including Fatima Jinnah Women University, District Courts main gate, Marqa-i-Haq Monument, Police Monument on Old Airport Road, State Bank of Pakistan on The Mall, and Gymkhana on Rashid Minhas Road.

Final touches on infrastructure

Authorities said finishing work is ongoing on drainage systems, lighting, footpaths, service roads, and the Annexe Chowk underpass near Jinnah Park. The underpass is also expected to be opened within a week, improving traffic flow in the area.

Fleet expansion and new routes

Officials confirmed that more than 35 additional electric buses will arrive in the city soon. The Punjab Mass Transit Authority plans to increase the operational fleet from 45 to 80 buses within a month.

New routes will connect Rawat T-Chowk to District Courts and Koral Chowk to Soan Bridge, Motorway, Rawalpindi Railway Station, and Saddar, significantly improving citywide mobility.

A new route from Saddar to Hamrahi Bus Stop is also expected to be launched, providing better access to Soan River areas and the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench.

Transport upgrade for commuters

Officials say the expanded electric bus system aims to improve urban mobility, reduce congestion, and provide modern, eco-friendly public transport options for daily commuters across the city.
