New Hazrat Ali Hajveri Underpass opens after Nawaz Sharif’s visit
Nawaz Sharif visits completed underpass
Nawaz Sharif visited the Hazrat Ali Hajveri Underpass at Bhati Gate after the completion of the project. Following his visit, the underpass was opened to general traffic.
The opening allows motorists to use the new route as part of efforts to improve traffic management in the area. The project is also the first underpass constructed during Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s tenure.
Signal-free route to improve traffic flow
The new underpass provides signal-free access for traffic travelling from Azadi Chowk towards Bhati Chowk. Motorists can continue onwards towards Kachehri and Mall Road using the improved route.
The project is expected to help reduce congestion and make travel smoother in and around Bhati Gate. The area is frequently used by a large number of vehicles travelling between central Lahore and other major parts of the city.
Three-lane underpass built for Rs1 billion
The Hazrat Ali Hajveri Underpass has three lanes and stretches over 400 metres. The project was completed for Rs1 billion.
The underpass has a curved design, while the speed limit inside it has been set at 30 kilometres per hour. Motorists are expected to follow the speed limit and other traffic rules while using the new route.
Drainage system installed to prevent water accumulation
A drainage system has also been installed as part of the project. The system is designed to remove rainwater and reduce the risk of water accumulation inside the underpass.

Proper drainage is particularly important during heavy rainfall, when waterlogging can affect traffic flow on Lahore’s roads. The system is expected to help keep the underpass operational during rainy conditions.
First underpass completed during Maryam Nawaz’s tenure
The Hazrat Ali Hajveri Underpass is the first underpass constructed during Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s tenure. The project forms part of wider efforts to improve urban infrastructure and traffic management in Lahore.
The new route is expected to provide relief to motorists travelling through the busy Bhati Gate and Azadi Chowk areas. Its impact on traffic flow will become clearer as more vehicles begin using the underpass regularly.
