National Assembly approves Budget 2026-27
The National Assembly on Monday approved the federal Budget 2026-27 and passed the Finance Bill after detailed deliberations during a session chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Following the approval of the budget, the Speaker adjourned the National Assembly session until 11:00 am on Tuesday. The passage of the Finance Bill paves the way for the implementation of several fiscal measures from July 1, the start of the new financial year.
Among the key changes introduced in the Finance Bill are revised customs duties on imported vehicles. According to the approved legislation, imported vehicles with engine capacities ranging from 2,000cc to 3,000cc will be subject to an 86 percent duty from July 1. Meanwhile, imported vehicles with engine capacities exceeding 3,001cc will face a 92 percent duty.
The government says the revised duty structure is aimed at regulating imports, supporting local industry, and managing the country's external account pressures.
The Finance Bill also includes tax relief measures for selected welfare and charitable organizations. Under the new provisions, the Pakistan Navy Benevolent Association and the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) will enjoy tax exemptions from the upcoming fiscal year.
In addition, provincial Employees Social Security Institutions, welfare organizations operating in Orangi Town, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation will continue to receive tax concessions under the approved framework.
The approval of the Budget 2026-27 marks a significant step in the government's economic agenda, setting the fiscal direction for the coming year while introducing changes in taxation, import duties, and support measures for social welfare institutions.
