(Web Desk): NADRA has imposed new rules for date of birth changes, requiring a court order and a verified computerized birth certificate for CNIC and related records in Punjab.

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued new guidelines restricting changes or corrections to date of birth in official records, including CNIC and child registration documents, under updated legal procedures in Punjab.

NADRA Date of Birth Change Policy: What’s New?

According to the official statement, any change or correction in the date of birth recorded on a computerized birth certificate issued in Punjab will now only be possible through a formal court order.

Under Punjab government rules, applicants must obtain approval from:

  • The relevant Union Council
  • Cantonment Board
  • Municipal Corporation Court

Without a verified court directive, NADRA will not process requests for date of birth correction.

Documents Affected by the New NADRA Rules

The revised policy applies to:

  • CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card)
  • NICOP (National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis)
  • Child Registration Certificate (CRC)
  • Juvenile Card

NADRA clarified that applications for correction will only be entertained if accompanied by:

  • A valid court order
  • A verified computerized birth registration certificate

The authority emphasized that this legal requirement is mandatory under applicable laws in Punjab.

Why NADRA Introduced the Restriction

Officials stated that the updated policy aims to:

  • Prevent misuse or fraudulent identity changes
  • Strengthen record verification procedures
  • Ensure transparency in civil registration data

The move is expected to streamline identity management and maintain accurate demographic records across Punjab.

NADRA Assures Public Assistance

NADRA assured citizens that it remains available to guide applicants through the legal process. Individuals seeking date of birth correction are advised to follow official channels and comply with the required documentation to avoid delays.

The new policy applies to all cases involving computerized birth registration certificates issued in Punjab.
