Naqvi announces major Karachi facility
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced plans to establish a major public facilitation centre in Karachi. He made the announcement during a visit to the Ministry of Interior’s Karachi office.
The centre is planned as “Pakistan’s largest public facilitation centre”, according to the Interior Ministry. It will bring several departments and organisations working under the ministry together at one location.
CNIC and passport services planned
Naqvi said citizens will be able to access several important services without visiting different offices. These services will include passports, CNICs, arms licences and various NOCs.
Naqvi said, “The citizens will be able to access passport, CNIC, arms licence, various NOCs and other services under one roof.” The facility is aimed at making government services more convenient for people in Karachi.
Naqvi gives 10-day deadline
The interior minister has directed officials to prepare the master plan for the facility within 10 days. The plan will include the requirements needed to establish and operate the centre.
“The master plan will be prepared while taking into account all necessary requirements,” Naqvi said. He added, “The facilitation centre will provide citizens with a range of services under one roof.”
Naqvi inspects new rescue vehicles
During his Karachi visit, Naqvi also inspected 21 new rescue and firefighting vehicles that arrived from China. The vehicles are for Islamabad Rescue 1122 and fire brigade services and are expected to be moved to Islamabad within five days.
The Interior Ministry said the vehicles include four aerial fire trucks, six fire towers and five fire tenders. The vehicles can support rescue operations at heights of up to 256 feet and will operate around the clock at six stations in Islamabad.
Analysis
Naqvi’s announcement puts the proposed Karachi centre at the centre of the Interior Ministry’s public-service plans. The next major step is the preparation of its master plan within the 10-day deadline.
The centre is planned to combine several services at one location instead of requiring citizens to visit separate offices. The new rescue vehicles are a separate measure aimed at strengthening emergency and firefighting services in Islamabad.
