LAHORE (Web Desk): CM Maryam Nawaz rejects proposal to close Punjab markets at 8pm, allowing businesses to continue operations till 10pm amid trader concerns.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting where administrative and economic matters were discussed. The proposal was mainly aimed at saving energy and improving management; however, the chief minister stated that the current situation does not allow additional pressure on the business community.

She emphasized that both federal and provincial governments are already providing subsidies, and changing market timings at this stage could negatively affect trade and overall economic activity.

As per the decision, markets across Punjab will continue to remain open until 10pm, keeping the existing schedule unchanged for commercial activities.

The chief minister also highlighted the importance of supporting traders, stating that they play a key role in driving economic activity and creating jobs. She added that any major policy affecting them must be made after proper consultation.

Officials have been instructed to consult trader associations, chambers of commerce, and business groups to gather feedback and suggestions before any future decision.

The matter is expected to be reviewed again in a future meeting after completing consultations with stakeholders.

The decision has been welcomed by many in the business community, who believe that keeping markets open until 10pm will help maintain sales and support economic stability during challenging conditions.
