Maryam Nawaz launches green electric bus service in Multan
The service has started with an initial fleet of 60 buses. The government has also announced plans to add another 100 buses to Multan in the coming days.
The buses are equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and charging facilities. CCTV cameras have also been installed to improve passenger safety, particularly for women.
Special facilities, including wheelchair spaces and ramps, have also been provided for persons with disabilities.
Electric bus network expands across Punjab
The Multan launch is part of Punjab’s wider plan to increase the use of electric buses for public transport. The provincial government has been introducing electric buses in different districts, with the aim of providing safer, cleaner and more affordable transport.
The Punjab Transport Department says the Multan electric bus project is intended to improve air quality, reduce noise and provide safer public transport for residents. The project cost has been listed at Rs2,748.889 million.
Maryam said electric bus services were being expanded without discrimination between different parts of the province. She also highlighted the government’s plans to promote electric mobility among students and other sections of society.
Focus on free and affordable public transport
The chief minister said the new buses were meant to reduce the transport burden on ordinary citizens.
The Rs20 fare is intended to keep the service affordable, while selected groups will be allowed to travel without paying a fare. The government has also focused on making the buses safer and easier to use.

CCTV monitoring, wheelchair facilities and dedicated arrangements for women are among the features highlighted by the provincial government. Maryam has previously said that students, women, senior citizens and persons with disabilities would receive free travel on Punjab’s electric buses.
Cancer treatment facilities also highlighted
During her visit to Multan, Maryam Nawaz also spoke about healthcare facilities in the city and South Punjab. She said a high-tech cancer hospital had been inaugurated in Multan and would provide free treatment. She also highlighted the installation of modern cancer-treatment equipment.
According to her remarks, the equipment can provide treatment without conventional surgery. She said two women had already received treatment using the new technology, with the procedure taking around 45 minutes in those cases.
The chief minister said the facility would serve patients from South Punjab as well as people from other parts of the country. She said modern equipment and specialist doctors were being provided to improve cancer treatment facilities.
Maryam speaks about law and order
Maryam Nawaz also spoke about the government’s law-and-order policy during the ceremony. She said her administration had taken action against criminal gangs despite facing threats of legal cases.
The chief minister said the government would continue taking measures to protect people, their property, businesses and families. She presented the actions as part of efforts to strengthen public safety and maintain the writ of the state.
