Gilgit-Baltistan (Web Desk): The digital lottery for the PM Free Solar Scheme has been launched to select beneficiaries as the government plans solar systems for homes and businesses.

A major development has been announced for people who applied under the Prime Minister’s Free Solar Scheme. Authorities have officially launched the digital lottery process to select beneficiaries in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The ceremony to launch the lottery system was inaugurated by caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Yar Muhammad. Officials said the digital lottery will ensure a transparent and fair selection process for applicants who registered under the scheme.

Additional Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Mushtaq Ahmed said the project aims to promote alternative energy and reduce the region’s electricity shortage. He explained that the initiative will also encourage environmentally friendly power solutions and support long-term energy stability.

According to officials, the scheme will distribute solar systems with a total capacity of 58 megawatts across Gilgit-Baltistan. Out of the total capacity, 40 megawatts of solar systems will be allocated for households.

Another 18 megawatts will be provided for small businesses and IT enterprises to support economic activity in the region. Government officials said the project is designed to provide relief to residents facing electricity shortages while also supporting sustainable development.

Provincial ministers praised the initiative and described it as an important step toward improving the energy situation in Gilgit-Baltistan. They said the solar scheme will help reduce dependence on traditional electricity sources and promote clean energy.

Officials also highlighted that the initiative will be particularly beneficial for the IT sector and small businesses. They said reliable access to energy can help businesses grow and create new economic opportunities in the region.

Authorities believe the scheme will not only help reduce power shortages but also contribute to economic and social development.
