The government has reduced LPG prices from March 1, but sharply increased petrol and diesel rates.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has issued a fresh notification announcing a reduction in liquefied petroleum gas prices. According to the regulator, LPG has been cut by 2 rupees 52 paisas per kilogram, bringing slight relief to domestic consumers.
With the new rates in effect, the price of a household LPG cylinder has dropped by 214 rupees. Consumers will now pay 2,664 rupees 88 paisas for a domestic cylinder, compared to 2,667 rupees 40 paisas in February. The per kilogram price of LPG has been fixed at 225 rupees 84 paisas.
However, the relief on cooking fuel has been offset by a major hike in petroleum products. In a separate notification, the government raised petrol prices by 8 rupees per litre, pushing the new rate to 266 rupees 17 paisas per litre. High-speed diesel has also been increased by 5 rupees 16 paisas per litre, taking its price to 280 rupees 86 paisas per litre.

During the previous fortnightly review, petrol was priced at 258 rupees 17 paisas per litre, while diesel stood at 275 rupees 70 paisas.
The mixed decision reflects the government’s balancing act between providing limited relief to households and adjusting fuel prices in line with international market trends. While LPG consumers may welcome the modest cut, the surge in petrol and diesel is likely to add fresh pressure on transport costs and inflation.
