The federal government of Pakistan has announced a significant increase in the price of light diesel oil (LDO) after raising the price of kerosene earlier, triggering concerns about rising fuel costs.
According to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Energy (Pakistan), the price of light diesel oil has been increased by Rs67.51 per litre, pushing the new price to Rs302.52 per litre.
The increase is expected to affect transportation and industrial sectors that rely heavily on light diesel oil.
Jet Fuel Prices Rise by 13%
In addition to the increase in light diesel prices, the government has also raised the price of jet fuel by 13 percent.
As a result, jet fuel has become Rs45.73 per litre more expensive, taking the new price to Rs388.01 per litre. Analysts say the move may lead to higher airfares across Pakistan, as airlines adjust ticket prices to cover rising operational costs.
Kerosene Oil Price Also Increased
Earlier, the government had issued a notification announcing a Rs39.20 per litre increase in kerosene oil prices.
Following the increase, the new kerosene price has been set at Rs358.01 per litre, compared to the previous rate of Rs318.81 per litre.
Kerosene is widely used in remote areas and by lower-income households, meaning the increase could place additional pressure on household budgets.

Petrol and Diesel Prices Remain Unchanged
Despite the increases in other petroleum products, the government decided not to increase petrol and high-speed diesel prices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier rejected proposals for a major hike in petroleum prices and directed authorities to maintain existing rates.
According to the official statement:
- Petrol price remains at Rs321.17 per litre
- High-speed diesel (HSD) remains at Rs335.86 per litre
Government Announces Rs23 Billion Subsidy
The Ministry of Energy stated that the government will provide Rs23 billion in subsidies to keep petrol and diesel prices stable.
The subsidy will apply for the period from March 14 to March 20, aimed at providing temporary relief to consumers amid the ongoing economic challenges.
Reports indicate that the subsidy amounts to:
- Rs49.63 per litre on petrol
- Rs75.05 per litre on diesel
This financial support will help maintain current fuel prices despite fluctuations in global oil markets.
Petroleum Levy Remains Unchanged
The government has also decided to maintain the existing petroleum levy on petrol and diesel.
- Petrol levy: Rs105.37 per litre
- Diesel levy: Rs55.24 per litre
Officials said the decision was taken to balance fiscal needs while preventing further burden on consumers.
Impact on Economy and Consumers
Experts warn that rising prices of light diesel oil, kerosene, and jet fuel could indirectly impact transportation costs, aviation fares, and household expenses.
While the government has attempted to provide relief by keeping petrol and diesel prices unchanged, the overall increase in petroleum products may still contribute to inflationary pressure in the coming weeks.
