Lahore traffic police sets tough rules
Strict action against traffic violations
Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi has directed traffic officials to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against major traffic violations to improve road safety and protect citizens.
During a meeting with traffic officers, Shirazi reviewed the city’s traffic arrangements under the “Safe Roads, Safe Punjab” vision. He ordered officials to reassess traffic management at all entry and exit points of Lahore and ensure proper lane discipline.
The CTO directed officers to take strict action against smog, overloading, underage driving and helmetless motorcycle riding. He warned that weak helmet enforcement would make the concerned sector in-charge and DSP accountable.
Officials were instructed to ensure that violations involving helmets, one-way traffic and lane lines are not overlooked anywhere in the city.
Crackdown on uncovered vehicles
The meeting also decided to launch an awareness campaign for pedestrians crossing roads and install warning signs at different locations.
Shirazi ordered strict action against goods vehicles and tractors or loaders carrying sand, soil and fodder without proper tarpaulin covers. Similar enforcement against uncovered and overloaded vehicles has previously been reported in Lahore.
The CTO also directed officials to check driving licences of all commercial vehicle drivers and ensure strict implementation of traffic laws.
